Another one of those signature summertime events is back in St. Clair this weekend. The St. Clair River Classic Offshore Power Boat races are Sunday and there are plenty festivities to celebrate the return of the races all weekend long. Bob Currier is with the Blue Water Offshore Racing Association and tells WPHM the festivities leading up to the race will be slightly modified this year in downtown St. Clair.

“There will be entertainment from 6pm until 11:30pm Friday in the center courtyard area of the mall,” said Currier. “Saturday is testing from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, and Sunday’s the big day.” Currier adds that spectators are welcome to bring their own food and beverages downtown with them for the races.

Some 50 different power boat racing teams from across the country are expected to attend this weekend’s race. There is no cost for admission due in part to the racing association securing a new presenting sponsor, Magna International, which is in the process of building an electric vehicle parts facility in St. Clair.
