Port Huron’s boat week festivities return this year

With the Rotary International Day Parade now in the rear view mirror, Port Huron’s attention now shifts to all the activities surrounding the 97th Bayview Mackinac Yacht Race.

Operation Transformation will be offering family friendly activities tonight along the River Street marina between the campus of SC4 and the 10th street bridge. The pony rides, face painting, and carnival games will run from 5 to 9pm. Then at dusk, fireworks will be shot off tonight from Desmond Landing.

Also tonight is the first of a pair of country music concerts by nationally renowned recording artists downtown. Q Country 107 WSAQ will be hosting Joe Nichol with special guest Them Cooley Boys tonight in the West Quay Street Parking Lot near the 7th Street Bridge. There will be a ticketed VIP area close to the stage with tickets being sold for $30 for tonight’s show or $20 for tomorrow’s show through the McMorran Box Office. Tomorrow night’s concert Drake White with local favorites the Gasoline Gypsies opening up for him.

Those heading downtown over the next 48 hours will encounter some road closures due to the festivities.  Huron Avenue will be closed between the Military Street Bridge and Grand River, as will a block of Quay Street on either side of Huron.
