Governments take measures to limit public interaction

Local, County, and State Governments are reducing in person services for the foreseeable future to help spread the curb of the virus. The public is is encouraged to conduct as much business as possible online, over the phone, or through the mail.The St. Clair County Treasurer’s Office says payments can be made online for free by using and E-check. Credit card payments are charged a convenience fee. The St. Clair County Veteran’s Affairs office has canceled scheduled appointments will be rescheduled or conducted via phone or e-mail. Paperwork can be submitted via a secured lock box. The St. Clair County Library System has canceled all programs for the foreseeable future however branches are to remain open. When calling 9-1-1 or Central Dispatch, you will be asked if you have a fever, cough or are short of breath. Should this apply, you may be asked to come out of your residence to meet first res ponders.

Port Huron’s pub crawl, Leprechaun Loop, and St. Patrick’s Day parade are canceled for this weekend. Furthermore, events taking place at McMorran Place involving over 100 people are canceled. The Palmer Park Community Center is also closed for events. The City of Port Huron says water bill payments can be made online or through the mail. City Manager James Freed says the elderly are discouraged from visiting the Municipal Office Center. Rental inspections have temporally been paused in the City of Port Huron. Freed has also issued a directive suspending water shutoffs in the city for at least 30 days. The cemetery and forestry divisions have also suspended in person services.
