State lawmakers pass online gambling bill

Michigan is now the 20th state to legalize sports and internet gambling. The legislature approved the bills Wednesday, representing a compromise between Governor Whitmer and lawmakers after they agreed to a higher tax than was initially proposed. Michigan is now also the fifth state to allow casino-style games to be played online. Word is sports betting could be in place by March Madness. The bill also provides a special fund for those who can not control their betting habit. Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick says $1.5 million will be dedicated to help problem gamblers. Governor Whitmer is expected to sign the legislation.
