The 39th annual Mackinac Policy Conference begins on the island this morning at the Grand Hotel. Over 1,700 politicians and business influencers are expected to attend the 3-day conference. The theme of this year’s event is focused on “Three Pillars” — Prepare, Grow and Love Michigan. The event — lead this year by CMS Energy CEO Pattie Poppe — is put on by the Detroit Regional Chamber. The policy conference has already seen a schedule change after Michigan billionaire Dan Gilbert suffered a stroke Sunday. Gilbert was slated to speak Wednesday but Quicken Vice Chairman Bill Emerson will speak in his place.
