Authorities recap long holiday weekend

Michigan roads were safer over Memorial Day weekend compared to last year. The Michigan State Police says 10 people lost their lives in eight-accidents on Michigan roads over the holiday weekend. The preliminary numbers show a significant drop compared to Memorial Day weekend 2018 when 19-people were killed in 15-accidents. Locally, it was a busy holiday weekend for authorities in Lapeer County. According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to 227 complaints which resulted in 23 arrests. In Sanilac County, sheriff’s deputies handled 87 complaints resulting in 13 arrests. Additionally, Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies performed 144 traffic stops and issued 55 citations, including many seatbelt violations as a result of a federal grant.
