The minimum wage for Michigan workers increases 20-cents to $9.45 an hour today. Teen workers can still be paid 85% of the minimum wage, but that rate will increase to $8.03 an hour. The minimum wage for tipped workers increases from $3.52 to $3.59 per hour. The state Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Department does not keep track of how many workers are paid minimum wage. Meantime, businesses with more than 50 workers have to start offering paid medical leave. However, the new law has 12 specific exemptions including workers who are under 18 years of age, employees who worked less than 25 hours per week on average in the preceding calendar year, and most overtime exempt employees.
