The developer of the St. Clair Inn and Hotel Harrington is announcing another venture in the Blue Water Area. Jeff Katofsky, during the St. Clair County State of the County address Friday, announced his intent to purchase the former Marysville Power Plant site. The two parcels of land, which includes 30 acres along the St. Clair River and 22 acres on the other side of Gratiot Boulevard, is currently owned by the Commercial Development Corporation. Plans for the site include retail and condos, with Katofsky telling WPHM it is “integral” to the hotels he is developing in St. Clair and Port Huron. “It just makes total sense for us to add this experience right in the middle, in Marysville.” Katofsky declined to release the sale price for the property, however the land was listed for $2.5 million by CDC. The former Marysville Power Plant was demolished in 2015, and has since been at the center of a lawsuit between CDC and demolition contractors. Earlier this month, it was announced that the lawsuit has been settled and that the property was back on the market. Katfosky tells WPHM the full vision for the site is still in the works, and says he is open to the idea of making part of the waterfront available for public use. “It’s not like I need to build all 60 acres from inch to inch,” added Katofsky.
