A downtown Port Huron restaurant is expected to re-open today after being closed for fire code violations. Rix’s Rooftop was closed by the Port Huron Fire Marshall earlier this week due to fire and electrical code issues. According to a statement from Port Huron Fire Chief Cory Nicholson, all hazards have been corrected and the restaurant can re-open. Among the violations listed in the fire Marshall’s report were issues with the kitchen’s ventilation and fire suppression system, and the use of a gas engine in the kitchen. Rix’s Rooftop is located at 511 Michigan Street in Port Huron at the site of the former Fogcuttter.

A Port Huron restaurant has been closed by the city due to fire code violations. Rix’s Rooftop restaurant, at 511 Fort Street, was inspected last week by the Port Huron Fire Marshal who found numerous violations. According to the Fire Marshall’s report, the kitchen hood system failed inspection and several electrical hazards need correction. Additional code issues, such as the use of a gas powered power washer in the kitchen, were also cited by the fire marshal. Pending a successful inspection, Rix’s Rooftop can re-open to the public.
