Knife wielding man shot, injured by police

The Port Huron Police Department and Michigan State Police are investigating an incident that occurred in the parking lot of a north end restaurant in which an officer shot and injured a man armed with a knife. Shortly after 7am Saturday morning, Port Huron Police officers were dispatched to the McDonald’s in the 2500 block of Pine Grove Avenue on reports of an attempted carjacking in which the suspect was stabbing himself with a knife. Officers responded to the scene where they engaged in a conversation with he suspect. In a press release to WPHM, police say the suspect charged at an officer with the knife and refused to take heed of the officer’s commands. One officer shot multiple times at the suspect, critically injuring him. He was taken to an area hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon. The Port Huron Police Department was assisted by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and the P.H.P.D.’s Major Crimes Unit. Anybody who has information on the incident is urged to call either the P.H.P.D. at 984-2378 or St. Clair County Central Dispatch at 985-8115. The incident remains under investigation and the suspect’s name will not be released until he is arraigned on charges later this week.
