LOCAL HOCKEY STAR CANCER FIGHTER PASSES AWAY
Former longtime Red Wings forward Shawn Burr has died at the age of 47. Burr, who was very ill battling cancer, was rushed to a Detroit area hospital after falling and hitting his head at his St. Clair home this past weekend. Burr died at that hospital Monday evening, The Sarnia native was drafted seventh overall by the Wings in the 1984 NHL Draft, and spent 11 of 16 professional seasons with Detroit. He is remembered locally for his work with the Shawn Burr Foundation.
