DEVELOPMENT SEEING LOTS OF ACTION IN THE CITY

It's a diverse and varied group that are putting their money into several development projects in and around St. Clair County.  The past couple years have seen announcements on projects such as the Blue Water Area Convention Center and its  related developments, plus the Amerilodge group building a Holiday Inn Express and restaurant at the site of the Water Street Marina, along with many others.  Local realtor Gerry Kramer says the Recession of 2008 put a damper on investment, but with interest rates at historic lows and the economy gaining momentum, others from outside the community are realizing what a great investment this area can be. Kramer says the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners and their partners on the convention center project are what made the turnaround begin to happen.  He says with investment coming in from Grand Rapids, Montreal, Massachusetts, and companies like Hilton, Amerilodge and Menards, plus developers Larry Jones and Dave and Georgina Witt, the next few years will see even more money flowing into the area, which means available jobs and further economic development.
