Officials with St. Clair County District Court say the woman originally accused of leaving her mother's dead body next to a dumpster in Port Huron Township in March and now charged with open murder will see her preliminary exam continued next month. 49-year old Kelly Rhodes of Salem, Oregon originally was charged with removing a dead body without a medical examiner's permission, a one year misdemeanor. Officials say, Rhodes left the dead body of her mother, 89-year-old Mary Gertrude Grenia behind the Goodwill store, with the woman having been dead for some time when discovered. The results of the autopsy are playing a key role in the court proceedings. A tip from a citizen led detectives from the sheriff's office to Rhodes, who was staying with relatives in Illinois at the time. She remains held at the St. Clair County Jail and is due back in court on July 9th.
