BAY MILLS CASINO HOPES GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP
The US Supreme Court has agreed to hear an off-reservation gaming dispute involving the Bay Mills Indian Community in Michigan, and their decision could very well have an impact on whether a casino will open on land purchased by the tribe in Port Huron. The tribe opened a casino in Vanderbilt, Michigan in 2010 on land that was acquired in connection with a land claim settlement. A similar purchase was made at the old Post Office area in Port Huron. Officials say it could be next year before a decision is handed down. The nine justices are set to hear arguments in the term that begins in October of this year.
