MILLER SUPPORTS COPS IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM

Cops In Schools is a federal grant program that's designed to assist local law enforcement agencies in the hiring of new officers, and Michigan Congresswoman Candice Miller has signed on as a co-sponsor of the bill.  The 10th congressional district representative says with recent school shootings like the one in December at a Conneticut elementary school, the program is needed now, more than ever.  The $30-million grant program has not been funded since Fiscal Year 2005.  Miller says while some have attempted to focus the gun debate on actions that would restrict constitutional rights of law abiding citizens, she believes the focus of efforts to curb gun violence in schools must be on what is most important in actually protecting children.  The bill is now in the House for debate.
