Parents know that reading is very important for their children, as it leads to success in school and life, but getting the kids to sit down and read a book can be challenging at times, and then there's the cost of providing books. That's where the St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency and the United Way of St. Clair County come in as they launch the Imagination Library program, which promotes childhood literacy by sending children a new book every month. RESA's Riley Alley says getting kids into the habit of reading has to start at the earliest possible age. Children's books will start arriving in the mail as soon as November at the homes of youngsters, from newborns through the age of 5 across St. Clair County. The books come at no cost to the family and Alley says the books are all high-quality, award-winning children's books. Parents can register a child online at www.greatstartstclair.org. Informational brochures are also distributed around the county.
