The Kansas City Royals held off the Detroit Tigers 9-8 on Tuesday night in KC. Justin Verlander gave up seven runs in the first two innings and allowed 8 runs and 12 hits in 5 2/3 total innings, but it was a run in the bottom of the eighth that broke an 8-8 tie and gave the Royals the win. Delmon Young and Jhonny Peralta hit home runs for the Tigers. A fly ball by Young in the ninth inning had to revued by the umpires on replay to see if it was a home run or a foul ball, the ruling was foul. Game two of a three game series is Wednesday night in Kansas City.
