Yankees Earn Split

Joaquin Benoit served up back-to-back home runs to Mark Teixeira and Dave Chavez in the eighth inning as the New York Yankees came from behind to beat the Tigers 4-3 on Thursday afternoon.  The Tigers had the tying run at third with no one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Ramon Santiago, Quintin Berry, and Andy Dirks all failed to drive it in.  Alex Avila had a two-run home run and Dirks an RBI double to drive in the Tigers runs.  Detroit is at Texas to begin a three game series on Friday night.  The Tigers missed out on a chance to tie idle Chicago for first place, and instead fall a game back in the Central.
