O's In Extras Over Tigers

In one of the strangest games of the season, the Detroit Tigers six game winning streak ended with a 13 inning 8-6 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.  The Tigers missed out on a chance to move into second place when they blew two leads in extra innings.  The Detroit offense was missing in action for the games first eight innings, with only one run and four hits.  However, off all-star closer Jim Johnson, the Tigers scored three runs on four hits in the ninth inning to tie the game at 4-4 and force extra innings.  Quintin Berry had a key RBI single to score the tying run.  Alex Avila then put the Tigers ahead in the 11th inning with another RBI single, but Jose Valverde blew the save and allowed a run in the bottom half of the frame.  Berry put the Tigers ahead again with hit second RBI single of the game, but Joaquin Benoit gave up a pair of home runs, one to JJ Hardy, and a two-run walk off shot to Taylor Teagarden in the bottom of the 13th to take the loss.  The teams combined to use 43 players in the game, including 16 pitchers.  The final game of a three game series is set for Sunday afternoon.
