PROTESTS AND LETTERS SEEKING AN END TO K2 SALES

This week saw Macomb County officials prohibiting the sale of K2 and Spice, and now the Port Huron Police Department is requesting local businesses voluntarily discontinue sales of the product. Legislators in the state House are expected to be voting soon on bills that would make the sale of K2 illegal. State Representative Paul Muxlow of Brown City believes work on the legislation is moving quickly in attempts to get the item off the shelves. Police Chief Michael Reaves says with the community already besieged with a variety of other substance abuse issues, the ability of yet another substance to wreak havoc amongst our younger generation is unacceptable.  He has signed a letter sent to area store owners seeking voluntary removal of K2 type products. Work is also underway locally to prohibit such sales by ordinance. Meanwhile protests of such sales were held Tuesday in Port Huron.
