UP OR DOWN: RAILROAD BRIDGE?

Take it down, leave it up, or move it elsewhere... lots of opinions on the Pere Marquette Railroad Bridge on the Black River which is on property now owned by the Port Huron Yacht Club.  In fact, yacht club member TJ Gaffney and owner of Streamline Historic Services says the yacht club itself has differing thoughts on what to do with the structure. Gaffney believes that before anything is down a structural engineer should be brought in to determine the strength of the bridge, which was built in 1931 and has served as a navigational marker on the Black River for decades. Gaffney says his group will be consulting with the state Historic Preservation Office on what steps to take next.  Meanwhile both “take down” and “leave up”  options are available at on-line petitions supported by different groups.
