SCHOOL OUT IN LAPEER AND GENESEE DUE TO PERCEIVED THREATS
Nearly a dozen school districts in Genesee, Lapeer and Sanilac counties have cancelled classes today and tomorrow due to rumored threats of violence and rumors connected to the Mayan calendar prediction of the end of the world on Friday. According to a letter from Lapeer Community Schools superintendENT, given the recent events in Connecticut, rumors of potential violence have been circulating throughout the district and in nearby districts. He wrote that the threats have been investigated and have been determined to be false, but have been a serious distraction for students, teachers and parents. ...thus administrators felt in the best interest of all to cancel classes early. For most that means no school until January 7th. Marlette schools were the first to make such a decision...having cancelled classes yesterday as well.
