HOOD PARTY TIME. IT IS NATIONAL NIGHT OUT TONIGHT
National Night Out events are taking place just about everywhere this evening, with the aim of getting people out of their house, onto their porch and sitting around and getting to know their neighbors. Port Huron Police Cpt. Jeff Baker says with everyone having a hectic schedule and people not living in the same neighborhoods for extended periods of time like they used to, events like today are more needed than ever. Baker says National Night Out is now in its 30th year, and it aims to raise awareness of community policing efforts and other anti-crime programs. From the north to the south end of Port Huron just about every neighborhood will be hosting similar events. Port Huron Hospital Foundation hosts a party for nearby residents. Another block party event goes on from 6pm to 9pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 7th and Chestnut, featuring a mini-petting zoo, a bouncy house and slide, free hot dogs and ice cream and games.
