Officials in Point Edward were busy Wednesday night, as chemical clean-up was ordered, when two semi-trucks collided on the Canada bound span of the Blue Water Bridge. The incident happened around 6:00 p.m. and involved the chemicals potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide. The two were said to be compatible with each other. The span was closed down as workers cleaned up the release. East and westbound traffic was maintained on the north span. One of the two truck drivers was taken to a local hospital. He was believed to have had minor injuries. Ontario authorities evacuated a park, underneath the bridge on the Canadian side, while emergency services operations were underway. There was no reported release into the river. Investigations into the accident are continuing.
