High school student arrested for making a false threat

A Port Huron Northern Student is in custody for making a threat against the school on social media. Sargent Dave Seghi, resource officer for Port Huron Northern, was made aware of the posting by fellow students on Wednesday evening which prompted an investigation by Port Huron Police. The investigation lead to a 15 year old student admitting he falsely issued the threat. The student is in custody at the Macomb County Juvenile Center and the Port Huron Police will be charging the minor for filing a false report of a felony, a four year charge, and obstructing police, a two year offense. Several other social media postings this morning alluded to an additional threat against the school, however police say they are unable to substantiate those claims. The PHPD tells WPHM they take threats of school violence very seriously and urges parents to keep a close eye on what their children share on the internet.

Port Huron Police are investigating threats at Port Huron Northern High School. Captain Joe Platzer of the PHPD tells WPHM there will be a heightened police presence on the campus today and tomorrow. Port Huron Northern’s School Resource officer was made aware of an alleged threat Wednesday evening by a student. Another threat was also made this morning. Platzer says the police department takes threats against student safety very seriously and is working with Port Huron Schools to investigate. Multiple students are being interviewed to find the source of the threat. Classes at Port Huron Northern will continue as scheduled today and tomorrow.
